Tony OnCam — Mountain Bike Intro: Run it over a muddy course and it’s a sight to be seen. Tony: VO Mountain Bike June was a record month for rainfall in the northeast, but it takes more than a little mud to stop a maniac mountain bike racer on a mission. Practice runs through the wet conditions didn’t slow them down or keep these hearty souls from smiling. The racers gathered at the top of the course for the first round, individual time trials to determine seeding and byes in the brackets. 34 racers were competing in men’s and women’s divisions at the Pro, Cat 1 Expert, Category 2 and 3 Amateur and Juniors levels. With the timed runs done and the brackets set, the racers prepared for the head to heads action. A fast start was critical in these sloppy conditions. Passing, even on a wide open course, was an adventure. Still, all it took was momentary mistake for an opening to appear that let an alert racer slide past his opponent for a come from behind victory. Then, in the b…/b
Mountain biking is one of the most adventurous recreational activities around. Unlike some other adventure sports, mountain biking provides the spirit and competitive nature of a sport along with the thrill of an adventure. But mountain biking can be a very dangerous activity too. To keep the chances of accidents to its minimum, first thing you need to do is to ride with maximum concentration and care. Second thing is getting specialized bike accessories for riding the bike. Since safety is very much involved while selecting mountain bike accessories, it is better to adopt a long-term policy and select a good quality accessory than adopting a short-term approach and selecting inexpensive, but poor quality accessories.
Mountain biking veterans all agree on one thing. Getting specialized bike accessories is a significant step in ensuring maximum safety. There are several kinds of mountain bike accessories available in the market. Helmet is perhaps the most popular of them. You can also find water bottle and cage that can be fitted to the bike for placing the water bottle. If it can be fitted to the front panel, you can get the water when you need without much effort. Other essential accessories include a spare tube and a pump to fill air in the tube. The most advantageous aspect of these sorts of accessories is that having these accessories at ones disposal naturally lifts ones confidence.
For a serious mountain biker who used to go for long distances, the list of specialized bike accessories is a little longer. You need to add specially designed dresses for cycling that will keep you warm and fresh for a longer duration. Padded shorts and custom-made shoes are very popular. Also, hand gloves and special jerseys are recommended. Another innovative accessory that is useful for long-distance mountain bikers is the carbon dioxide inflation system.
The most sought after specialized bike accessories are helmets and other protective clothing such as gloves and jerseys. Helmets are specially designed to prevent injuries or damage to the head of the rider. One should take extreme care to fasten all the strings of the helmet tightly. The helmet should not be thrown off from the head on the impact of a fall.
The most advanced among the specialized bike accessories is the bicycle computers, which are popularly known as cyclocomputers. These devices record basic information such as speed, distance traveled, time, and average speed. Latest versions of these devices have GPS facility, through which one can locate the correct locality one is in. Usually, these devices can be mounted on handlebars so that the rider can easily view the information. Even with computers or any other modern devices, the trick in safe and successful mountain biking lies in keeping the concentration and focus.
