This is a review of the Schwinn Protocol 1.0 Dual Suspension mens mountain bike, a good and competent entry level all terrain mountain bike.
The marketplace for budget full suspension mountain bikes is fairly crowded at the price level that the Schwinn Protocol 1.0 is aimed at; it needs to be doing something good to compete. Well, the initial impression is that for the price, the specification is nigh on unbeatable. Sure there are cheaper fully sprung bikes but these are not to be compared to the likes of the Schwinn.
For an entry level ride – please don’t confuse sub $200 full suspension bikes to be “proper all terrain bikes”, the Schwinn Protocol has a kit list to make the competition weep , an aluminum frame, 24 speed Shimano quick shift, Suntour forks and a disk brake at the front, so all in all a very comprehensive specification.
So, what is it like to ride? Well, by chance I managed to get a Mongoose Status to compare it against – both bikes being aimed at the same market and price point, and it was apparent that both bikes are very capable performers both on the street and on the trail. An afternoon in the woods, both on trails and in the mud showed that the Protocol can mix it up safely and well, the lighter weight against the Mongoose being apparent, but not as noticeably as the stats sheet suggests.
A little assembly was required on delivery, adjustments required to the brakes to stop them binding, but in truth nothing that I haven’t had to do on all of the bikes I have either owned or tested.
So, what is the overall verdict – tested for several days on lots of terrain where the bike may well typically find itself the bike’s quality shone through. Not as light as the likes of a Trek or Marin, it certainly didn’t disgrace itself. Tested back to back against one of its closest rivals in the Mongoose it genuinely comes down to what fits best and personal choice. If you are in the market for a cheap full suspension bike you can do a lot worse than invest in the Schwinn.
Why buy a used mountain bike when you can get one of these at a discount?

I once had a great mountain bike; it was pretty cool till it got old. Actually about 8 years old, but I still liked it so I decided to get it upgraded. I went around looking for the parts that I considered needed the upgrades. I asked around and finally decided to get my paddles, brakes and my rotor changed. My bike was not the same. In fact I hated it, even though they were the top of the line parts, but they wouldn’t click.
What most of the people do when it comes to upgrading a bike is they go for the parts that fancy them, without considering the utility and compatibility and this is exactly what I did. Wrong move I had to get rid of all of them and go back to the original compatible parts.
The bike was the same again the way I loved it. A couple of months later, I met a guy who was into bike more than just riding one like me, he gave me a few tips which made understand that getting the right parts was so important that it is better not to go for the upgrade rather than paying a hefty amount on top of the line parts and then later regretting your action.
Tip # 1
Check out with a friend who has replaced his parts recently and get the feel by riding his bike. If you like those changes only then think of getting that done.
Tip # 2
Always consult an expert. You are likely to find one at the bike shop and tell him your bike’s model and what you desire out of your upgrade. In most of the cases he will be able to guide you correctly and help you chose the right parts.
Tip #3
It is not necessary that the most expensive and the latest versions are the best for you. Keep the fact into consideration that you have to get the best out of your bike.

Most of us like going for a ride on our bikes be it mountain biking, dust trails or any other off road terrain. I am sure we definitely enjoy the thrill and the adventure, but have you ever thought on the parts used to make your mountain bike? Well, neither have I. Nevertheless, it’s actually very important to know our bike parts as it might be of help one day.
Some of the mountain bike parts are as listed below;
Bottom bracket, which is an adjustable attachment of the crank set to body of the bike. Crank lever which extends from the bottom bracket to the pedals and it’s main function is transferring power to the chain rings, which are toothed rings which hold the chain. Chain circular, are set of links that transfer power from the chain ring to moving parts of the wheel.
Mountain bike parts also include; a brake cable and a lever whose functions are attaching the lever to the mechanism and activating the brakes respectively, Derailleur Mechanism which moves the chain from one part to another, front Shock absorbers, headset mechanism which connects front fork to the stem or the handlebars and spokes which are attached to the Hub Center section of the wheel.
Rims and tires are also important mountain bike parts and actually they make up the wheel. It would actually be impossible riding for long while standing and thus a seat is very essential. Top tubes and steering tubes are also important parts that make up our bikes.

Bikes which have cost more than 2000 or 3000 dollars seem to come with more information about repairing mountain bike included in it than some pages in the form of a booklet. Irrespective of whether you get this information, a rider should be aware of some of the basic mountain bike repair needs just to make sure the mountain bike is properly maintained and is in working condition. A wheel coming off during a downhill ride would have destructive effect on both the bike as well as the rider.
The first things that every rider should know while maintaining the bikes is how can the bikes are kept clean. Cleaning not only includes the handlebar grips, tires but also wheels to avoid them from getting eroded and chain to aid in identifying any potential breakages. To reduce the need of repairing the mountain bike, preventive safeguarding can save money and time along the track and being aware of few simple repair techniques can quickly help you in getting back onto the trail.
Keeping a chain tool in your tool kit can help you in replace the link if needed and also knowing what kind of lubrication would work best with different conditions of your ride can also help you in very less chain breaks. Repairing a flat tire is one of the very common procedures for bike repair. Mountain bikes that come with many gears, changes to the chain ring are normally needed after you remove the back wheel for repairing the tire and replacing it.
Few components of the bike would last forever specifically under the situations where most of the mountain bikes are rode; few simple and general steps can avoid the requirement of vast mountain bike repairing methods. Similar to how Oil in the engine of a car can avoid the requirement for a new engine, having the brake cables of the bike lubricated also prevents these from getting snapped. When we need brakes and if the cable is frayed and rusty, it might make them fail. This not only leads to more repairs on the bike but also cause an injury to the bike rider.
Listening to the noises made by the bike very accurately often gives us hints of mountain bike repair requirements. A little rubbing sound might be because of the brake pad being hit by the tire or a continuous sliding sound might point to problems on **** brakes with the rotor. Few very simple changes or adjustments with your bicycle tools might treat this issue before they need a extensive mountain bike repair procedure.

The enjoyment you get from mountain biking will depend on a variety of factors. Terrain which is challenging without being impossible, friends who share your enthusiasm for the ride, and a bike designed to suit your abilities are all important. But of these, the most important is your mountain bike, so you’ll want to make sure it has the best available mountain biking parts.
The wheels and tires, brakes, pedals, suspension, and saddle of your bike are all mountain biking parts which can have a great effect on the quality of your mountain biking experience. And of these, the tires are the ones which can end your ride more quickly than any of the others. While there are differing schools of thought on the use of tubeless tires on mountain bikes, most professional bikers avoid them.
The Tire Debate
Even though tubeless tires are used on automobiles, they would leak under the rigors of mountain biking, requiring tubes to be inserted. There have even been reports from those who sell mountain biking parts that tubeless tires leak even while on the bikes in their shops.
Furthermore, tubeless tires are not only more expensive than regular ones; they require that you have rims and rim strips especially designed to handle them, and you’ll have to pay for those as well.
Second only to your tires in importance as mountain biking parts are your brakes; you should have your brakes tested periodically. Your bike suspension or suspension fork is also critical to your comfort and safety, as is your saddle; pedals and gloves are not quite as necessary to your safety but can certainly play a big part in pain prevention.
Shopping For Mountain Biking Parts
You’ll have a wide variety of mountain biking parts from which to select, and, to find the best quality at the best price, you should do some comparison shopping at the different sporting goods stores and bike shops in your area. If you are comfortable shopping on line, there are dozen of Internet sites where you can learn about and purchase the mountain biking parts you need.
With the surging popularity of mountain biking [http://www.mountainbikingreviews.com/All_About_Mountain_Biking/]
, mountain biking parts manufacturers are constantly trying to improve on their products technologies, durability, and weight. The price of their research is passed along to you in the high cost of your mountain biking parts.
Even if you wince at the prices you are paying, the satisfaction you’ll get from knowing you have the safest equipment available will take some of the pain out of its pricing. A first-rate mountain biking adventure begins with having first-rate mountain biking parts!
