Advantages To Mountain Biking Wednesday, November 10th, 2010
David Tannascoli asked:

There are many advantages to mountain biking and you don’t have to be an expert to participate in this sport. Many people do not see the obvious advantages to this sport, simply because they think it’s too tricky or expensive. Once you buy a mountain bike and start pedaling through single track trails you will soon realize that it isn’t as tricky as you once thought. Also, you don’t have to buy yourself the most expensive bike on the market to enjoy this rewarding sport.

Being a mountain biker myself, I have seen a lot of the positive aspects about this growing sport. When I head out to ride the trails close to where I live, I see all different types of riders. There are parents who take their young kids with them to the more advanced trail riders who are able to maneuver their bike however they need to in order to make it to the end of the trail. One of the great aspects about mountain biking versus other sports is once you have a bike, the right gear and clothing, you just head out to the trailhead and don’t have to pay to ride the different trails. For example, if you are a skier or a golfer, your obligated to spend your hard earned money to ski at a resort or a golf club. That’s of course after you’ve already spent money on the equipment for that particular sport. Another great advantage is while most sports have an off season, with mountain biking you can ride in all year round. So if you have warmer clothing you can ride in the winter time and breath in the cool crisp air. One great part about this wonderful sport is that you don’t have to be a speed demon to enjoy it. Riding on technical single track trails forces you to ride slowly while at the same time become an exceptional bike handler. That is something you don’t get from riding on the road. But, practicing your bike handling off road will definitely make you a better road rider when you come to an obstacle such as a series of pot holes, bumpy road and so on. Being that I do a lot of road riding myself, I really enjoy getting out in the middle of the woods away from the cars, traffic lights, and the hustle and bustle of road riding not to mention the fact that road riding is more about going fast and seeing how long before my legs really begin to hurt. With riding on the trails and being secluded within a deep lush forest with creeks, birds chirping and the occasional deer sighting makes for a great time. That is something that you just can’t get with most other sports.

With the many advantages to mountain biking it is obvious that you don’t have to be an expert to participate in this sport. As you can see, just as I’ve seen for myself that mountain biking is more about becoming one with nature and enjoying meandering your way through technical trails as you get a rush from the overall experience of it all.
