Mountain Bike Fun!

The sport of mountain biking can be really fun and relaxing. Or it can be adrenaline filled if you choose to take part in the more challenging downhill racing. Whatever you plan to do with your mountain bike, if you are just starting out then you may be confused as to which bike to choose and what the best bikes actually are. That is where mountain bike ratings come in and they can prove to be invaluable when choosing your next bike.

Looking into Mountain Bike Ratings

Usually before you purchase anything it is a good idea to research more into the product. This is especially the case with mountain bikes as they can be particularly expensive and you really do not want to purchase something expensive that isn’t right for you. By looking at mountain bike ratings you get to see which ones are of a better quality and which ones you should potentially stay away from.

Basically when you look at mountain bike ratings it is like looking at a review. You need to keep in mind that different people see products in different ways. So whilst one expert may love a particular bike, another may absolutely **** it. That is why when you look into mountain bike ratings, you should always look at as many different sources as possible.

One of the most popular mountain bikes available today is the GT Avalanche. If you research the ratings of this model you will see that most people have given it either 4 or 5 stars. However because it is so good it will cost you quite a lot of money and you should expect to pay around $1,000. However it is extremely durable and it is perfect for going along rough terrain. So it should last you years which is an investment if you are planning on taking part in the sport regularly.

Another popular bike which is a lot less expensive is the Schwinn Mesa. It is usually given between 3.5 to 5 stars and it too is quite a durable bike. It is perfect for the beginner and it will usually set you back around $250. So it is definitely one of the more reasonably priced mountain bikes available on the market. This mountain bike may also be an excellent choice for the biker who is not planning on taking part in the sport that often.

If you want a bike which looks good then a popular one for its sleek appearance is the GMC Sport mountain bike. It is usually given 4 to 5 stars and it is an extremely tough bike. It can handle all kinds of rough terrain and just like the Schwinn Mesa; it too will cost you around $250 which is a real bargain for a good looking, durable bike.

Overall looking at the latest mountain bike ratings can help you to make your mind up regarding your new bike. Just remember to look at more than one source for the ratings in order to get the best possible advice.

Close to the end of summer 2008 I bought a used bicycle. The bike I choose was a 2006 Giant Anthem 2 and I rode it as often as I could before it started to snow. Now that spring is coming I thought it would be a good time to review the Giant Anthem 2 for anyone out there that might be in the market for a really good used mountain bike.

Now for a little background on why I was in the market for a new bike. After riding my cheap, heavy hard tail mountain bike with my friends I realized I had to get a better bike just to keep up with them. I also had plans on going mountain biking but didn’t want to use the old bike because I was concerned about breaking some of the cheap components on the bike.

I had been keeping an eye on Craigslist (check out my post on Buying a used bike on Craigslist) for a better Mountain bike and one day I noticed someone was selling their 2006 Giant Anthem 2. Before I even called the seller I did some research. Both online and at the local bike shops. In 2006 the Anthem 2 Mountain Bike was the second from the top of the line Mountain Bike for Giant and in 2009 the Anthem Frame is still used as Giant’s top of the line Mountain Bike. The bike was in perfect condition and looked like it had barely been used. In 2006 the MSRP was around $2,300 because of the bikes high end components. And that is also why it is so much lighter than my other bike and it weights around 26 pounds (which is pretty light for a Mountain bike). This bike is lighter than many of my friend’s hard tails. I guess it’s true – you get what you pay for.

The only thing I have changed on the bike is the seat. The bike came with a cheap pair of pedals (higher end bicycles typically do not come with pedals) so I added a pair of clipless pedals. I also put on a Specialized Elite Cycling computer on. And when the sun goes down I attach lights so I can see where I’m going and other people can see me.

I have to tell you I absolutely love this bike and I have been very pleased with this bike with the bikes performance. I would also highly recommend this bike to anyone who is serious about mountain biking. The bike is light and performs very well on paved trails and off road mountain bike trails. And the suspension soaks up the bumps extremely well and the suspension is adjustable both front and rear and they even have lockouts.

The frame on this bike is aluminum, not carbon fiber. It doesn’t seem to affect the performance of this bike but I have never ridden a carbon fiber mountain bike. I should also let you know I am not a professional Mountain Biker so I don’t have anything else to compare this bike to other than my cheap hard tail. But I have been biking seriously since 2007 so I’m not a novice. I don’t feel that the aluminum frame is a drawback for this bike but I thought it should be pointed out just in case you have your heart set on a carbon fiber bike.

I plan on using this bike for at least one mountain bike race this summer. Plus there are many mountain bike trails in my area so check back for more updates on this bike and the mountain bike trails in the Twin Cities area.

Boys need to get a little more active. That is why I think every nine or ten year old boy needs a Mongoose Montana Boy’s Mountain Bike 24 Inch Wheels. I look around me and all I see are little boys slouching in chairs playing video games on their cell phones! They really have to get out there and MOVE a little.

So, if you want to get your boy moving, why not get him a good mountain bike that will be strong enough to take the abuse he is going to throw its way? It is true that you do not want to spend a fortune on a bike that is only going to be used for a few years, but you also do not want to get a heap of scrap that is not going to last him through the Christmas break!

It is also important that whatever bike you get him must have good gears. You want him to learn to use them from the start because hopefully you are introducing him to a future sport. If you are an enthusiast yourself, you will know how important good gears are to teach him using it in the correct way from the start.

Many people think that the ones you can get at the normal discount stores will be fine. I disagree, even though I know money is an important consideration, you do want to make sure he does not have too many problems with it as it may put him off for life. You want to instill a love of cycling in him and a bad bike is not going to do the trick.

Go and have a look at what is available. Make sure you know what you can get for your money. Better still, of course, read some reviews and see what people think of the Mongoose Montana boy’s mountain bike 24 inch wheels and decide for yourself.

When you think of mountain biking, often you think of experienced riders taking part in various jumps and tricks. It is an extreme sport which many have come to love and it is considered to be dangerous for the inexperienced rider. However, mountain biking is not all about jumps and tricks. It can actually be a really relaxing sport if you opt to take a scenic trail. If you are inexperienced then it is advisable to avoid as many jumps as possible as they can cause serious injury if you do not know what you are doing. However, if you want to attempt to tackle the jumps then there are a few things that you should keep in mind.

How to Handle Mountain Bike Trail Jumps

Many mountain bike trails are designed with at least one jump included in them. For this reason it is a good idea to learn how to properly handle them if need be. The number one thing to keep in mind is to never change the trail. Many riders go on a trail and attempt to do their own thing. This is not advised for the simple reason that the trails are designed to be as safe as possible. If you change them it is not guaranteed that you will not cause yourself a serious injury. Just stick to the trail and do not try to do anything fancy unless you want to end up in hospital.

When you are on a trail and you come across a broken jump. Always either move it or fix it so that other riders do not potentially hurt themselves. If you are building a trail yourself then try not to make it too difficult. The inexperienced rider can often build a trail which is far too difficult for them because they do not have the right knowledge to build a simpler one.

You have to know your own limits. Whenever you go on a new trail you should allow yourself to familiarize with it. If you simply rush in and attempt to do various stunts you could end up causing an accident. Go around the trail first and see what it involves. If it seems to be too difficult then do not even attempt it. Not only can you injure yourself by attempting a trail which is too difficult, but you can also injure others too.

Overall mountain bike trails do often have jumps incorporated into them. So if you are a beginner then it is advisable to check in advance what the trail will involve. If there are several jumps involved then avoid that trail and try a different one. Only experienced riders should attempt the difficult trails and even then accidents can still occur.
